Immunizations

There are a variety of immunizations you must receive well before the trip.

Please consult with your doctor before going on the trip. Vaccination requirements may vary for different individuals. Visit www.cdc.gov/travel for more information.

Yellow Fever - Viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes.

$100. Receive 10 days before trip, lasts 10 years.

Hepatitis A – Inflammation (irritation and swelling) of the liver
caused by the hepatitis A virus.

$45. 1 month before traveling: December 10th, 2009.

Polio – Poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can affect nerves and lead to
paralysis.

$40. 1 month before traveling: December, 10th, 2009

Typhoid Fever – A bacterial infection characterized by diarrhea,
systemic disease, and a rash — most commonly caused by the bacteria
Salmonella typhi.

$60. Live Typhoid Vaccine. Oral. 80% effective. Four doses 2 days apart, at least 1 week before travel. January 3rd, 2010

Malaria – Malaria is a parasitic disease that involves high fevers, shaking
chills.

Choice A: Doxycycline –Pills taken before during and after trip. 50 cents/ pill.

Choice B: Malarone – 30 pills taken before, during and after trip. $10/ pill. Covered by most health insurance providers.

Please keep in mind that many of these vaccinations will last you for many years and cover potential future trips. They are an investment in your travel well being.
